Pick A President: Brief Biographical Summary

Writing a biographical summary on a President can be a valuable assignment, but it can be too daunting for many scenarios, especially if you only have a day or two available in your curriculum. That’s where these presidential biographical summaries are a real lifesaver! In an easy to use graphic organizer, students can choose any president of choice to learn about and summarize their life. In a one page worksheet format, these templates are very user friendly and allow students to write about the main ideas on any president. Many teachers have assigned these as an individual assignment, or as a group project. When complete, each completed biographical summary can be posted and used as a gallery walk to teach other students about their research. This resource also comes in a digital Google Drive format so students can complete on their devices as a shared file with others. When complete, it can become a presentation for the rest of the class to learn from as well. Take a look, and I think you’ll come to enjoy this engaging format!

ROLES OF THE PRESIDENT: AN EXECUTIVE BRANCH ACTIVITY

When studying the President, it’s helpful to know the various “hats” that the president wears, or the variety of roles that the president plays. This guided reading activity is very engaging for upper elementary and middle school students. After reading the seven brief roles, students are grouped to create brief skits that show the president playing one of the seven roles. After all skits have been presented and roles have been guessed, students are given a “day in the life”reading to correctly identify the role being played. Practical and engaging, teachers and students alike appreciate this effective lesson idea on what a day in the life of a president really looks like!

Students can work individually or in groups to study an assigned president or one of their choosing. With a simple set of instructions through easy to follow bullet points, students are guided to include information about their president’s early life, personal life, presidency, and significance to history.
